The Best Italian Food in Howell without question or just about anywhere else in these parts! And by these parts I mean Freehold, Manalapan, Marlboro, etc.

We go to Christie's infrequently but love it every time. In fact, my one complaint about the place is how you have to know which day they're going to have the Chocolate Mousse Cake for dessert. It's a catch as catch-can and can be a very frustrating game of hide-and-seek.  Roll Eyes

Anyway, we went there the other day in the middle of the week when it was only moderately busy (maybe 4 to 5 tables of couples tops) so we got the royal treatment from Rosario.

Hadn't met him before but he is a treat himself and the delightful anecdotes about the old country were just enough to be interesting but not so much that it became awkward.

Food as usual was excellent but with Rosario making the rounds to see, 'anda, how you are doing? Isa there anything I can geta for you" with such cheery sincerity.

Well, Christie's just got itself another good reason for everyone to tell everyone else to go! (Except of course when we're heading over there.  Roll Eyes)

Oh, BTW, a reminder to the parents that are picking up their little dancers at the studio there, be considerate and DON'T PARK - even for a minute or two - with your car facing into Christies so that your headlights are literally blinding patrons whose chairs face the windows. A little courtesy that could keep someone from getting into a shouting match that could end up in an arrest. I 've seen some angry confrontations. Let's all try to think and be considerate.  Roll Eyes  Grin

Yuh know what?! I was thinking the same thing. Keep your mouth shut big-mouth, I thought.

But you know me, talkin' when what I should be doing is keeping my mouth shut (especially when there's good food in it!  Grin )

But tell me I'm not right about those rude people that pull up to the fire lane and leave the lights on?!  Angry

If you think of it, give us a call next time you're thinking of heading over there and we'll meet you.

(That way Char can get the $10 bucks Leon owes her.)  Wink

Keeping a good place to eat a secret.... means they close and move to another town - so spread the word (imho).   Wink

We just tried That's Amore Italian Grill (the old Attillio's) on 9 north in Marlboro. The foos was exceptional and the portions were HUGE. No one finished their meals and we were all done after appy's
Only complaint was the noise, but we here it is not too crowded and not as noisy during the week. We went on a Saturday. service was top notch as well

My wife and I tried Christies for the first time a couple of weeks ago, and I have to say that I'm sorry I didn't try this place sooner.

The food was outstanding and the service was top notch. The staff is very friendly and attentive.

We went back again this past Friday, and were not disappointed.

If you haven't tried it, you must! And make sure you make reservations before you go. They fill up quickly on the weekends.

The food is great there and we've been there many times.  Never been disapppointed.

But like Rick said, the food really sucks lately and you have to deal with the flies, rats and roaches.  And rude staff and no air conditioning.  And heavy smokers and farters.  And lots of foul language.  And there are a lot of bikers that hang there lately.  I heard the Hells Angels meet there.  And the Bloods and Crips too.

Other than that - it's great!   Wink

Also try Solo Bella in Jackson for a slightly more casual atmosphere.  Make sure you sit in the large dining room.  That's where you'll find a more friendly, typical noisy Italian atmosphere.  I grew up in a large Italian family and there were always 12 people talking and no one listening.  I feel right at home with all the noise, talking, laughing, etc.

Or if you like it quiet, ask to be seated in the small, boring room to the right.  They also have outside seating and menu is all the same.

Best part of both places is BYOB.  I'm not fond of spending 8 bucks for a glass of wine that was poured out of a 7 dollar bottle.
