Well, let's start the war stories. I looked mine up. Assuming it is accurate and I am reading it correctly, my annual property taxes have increased by $150.66. I can live with that. Ironically, for the next two quarters the payments are actually less than previously scheduled.

Looks like it to me. Go to the Township web site, go to the Taxpayer section and key in your lot and block number then check back here.

If mine is correct I'm up around $500.  :-/ Not a lot for someone earning over a $100,000 or so but for someone living on social security, who paid their own medical bills, paid for their kid's recreation, and didn't cost the town a red cent I think it's high.

The good news is that the housing market in Howell should improve for those selling older homes once the tax bills go out. People will know what they are getting into. But here's the thing. We did not yet pay to pave all those roads that Team DiBella approved nor are we paying for the many more kids that will move in thanks to his opening the door for AST.

Next year, when the price has to be paid, and taxes raised, the new team will have to bite the bullet and deal with it. They will have to take the blame for the bills DiBella ran up.

I'm calculating with one hand and drinking with the other.... Just adding up the raw numbers due each quarter my 2007 tax bill is about $150.00 more than my 2006 bill. I don't see any other way to figure it.

We need some others to weigh in here!

If my calculations are correct I should see a reduction of $524.02 based on the new rate.

OK, help!

two questions:

First, the easy one. I see you can get a 250.00 deduction if you are a veteran. Since that applies to my husband, how do i get the discount? I would rather ask here first than call if you dont mind.

Second,

edit:

if i did this correctly, we went up about 100.00.

i added 3/4Q for 2006 with 1/2Q of 2007 and then
i added 3/4Q for 2007 with 1/2Q of 2008
then got the difference
is that right?

ok i think i did that right. did i?

Just wanted to post the link to the page to make it easier for others:

http://taxsearch.twp.howell.nj.us/

OK - going to look now... do I need to add something to my morning coffee?  (Cringing...)

Up about $250.00 for me and I'm in a tiny "cottage".  We've got a decent sized lot - it's all in the land value.  These bills only show the first 2 Quarters - keep that in mind.  It is a sigh of relief for us though - we were afraid of the taxes going up 10 x what they did.

correct jody, and the 3/4Q is usually higher, so in actuality it went up even highter, but by how much?  i dont know how to figure that out.

That's just it Maria - that part hasn't been determined yet.  The mystery continues.  New tax bills always come out in July - due August 1st.

The website gives you a total for 2006 and 2007, so you know what the new taxes are.  The 2008 piece is an estimate of what the taxes would be if they stayed the same.  They do this for the first 2 quarters and then when the budget is set (July), they determine the 2008 year bill and adjust the last 2 payments based on subtracting out the first 2 from the new amount.

Maria,

For the Veterans Discount (-250) you have to go to the tax office on 524 and show your 'Honorable Discharge' papers. If your lucky, and timed it right, you may get an additional $250 off, retroactive for this year. Ask them, what could it hurt? Thank your husband for me, for his time in the service.

I haven't received my new tax bill, yet. But, I, already know what I'm in for.
I'm one of those expecting a free complimentary "FOR SALE" sign with my bill.

Sorry, I gotta go. The weeds in my vegetable garden are about 6' tall. Saw baby rabbits in there this morning. Really don't want to disturb the babies, but "Whattaya gonna do"?
