Does anyone know what they are doing in the middle of 195? I drive from Howell to the beach area each day. First it was grass gone and then dirt. I thought maybe they were planting seeds for flowers instead of grass. But then I noticed some type of mulch??? with plastic bags, looking just like garbage. Today I see tree limbs and now I am really lost? A good noreaster and those limbs will just be lying across the highway.
Anyone with a clue?

Not sure Arlene but I read this on a Yahoo group I belong to:

Interesting... so now if a car goes out of control heading towards the other side - instead of hitting a tree - it will cross over into oncoming traffic with no barrier at all.... and it was free, good for the environment....

Seems to me the trees worked well as a barrier and gave the police a place to hide out for speeders and zig-zaggers in traffic.

By the way - west of Howell/Jackson - the trees remain untouched in the center median .... at the moment.

I have been told that they are installing guard rails to prevent head on collisions like the one which occurred this past Tuesday.

But why take out ALL the trees?   :-?  What are they thinking?

We cringe at what the County did all along Shafto Road in Tinton Falls ... they planted well over 100 trees UNDER the power lines!  Brilliant!  That's our tax dollars at work!
