Absolutely love it and people should know it fosters "family values" more than anything on television.
It is one of the best shows on.

Watch this show and you become convinced that "plural marriage" as they call it is probably the best hope there is to sustaining a marriage and practically eliminating divorce if all are mutually committed to the premise.

And Maria, I'm glad they bagged Anna. She wasn't committed to the idea even though she was open to the premise.

what is up with nicky? she sure is uptight, there is alot to her character. and i love margene, she looks like she would be a fun girlfriend, up for anything, she has such a free spirit

the season is way too short, only a handful of episodes. not fair at all

i did hear a seinfeld reunion is being filmd for the next curb season, starting in sept i think, i dont remember. they will all be in a few episodes, that sounds exciting

HBO's Depiction Of Mormon Ceremony Upsets Church
The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints Is 'Appalled' at the TV Series
By EMILY FRIEDMAN
March 11, 2009

The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints is angry over an episode of HBO's hit series "Big Love" that the church says is in "appallingly bad taste."

An upcoming episode of "Big Love," which chronicles the lives of a fictional polygamist family, is reported to be depicting an endowment ceremony, one of the most sacred rituals of the Mormon Church.

"It now seems the show's writers are to depict what they understand to be sacred temple ceremonies," read a statement from the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. "Certainly church members are offended when their most sacred practices are misrepresented or presented without context or understanding."

The statement says that before the first season of "Big Love" aired more than two years ago, HBO executives promised the church that the series wouldn't be about Mormonism.

But the church argues that "Mormon themes are now being woven into the show" and that Mormon characters are often "unsympathetic figures" who are "narrow and self-righteous."

While the church has not called for a boycott of HBO or the program, several of its followers have, using the blogosphere and "Big Love" message boards to air their complaints.

In a statement released earlier this week, HBO defended its decision to include the ceremony on the show, according to Reuters.

"Obviously, it was not our intention to do anything disrespectful to the church, but to those who may be offended, we offer our sincere apology," read the statement.

In a separate statement the creators of the series said that they "took great pains to depict the ceremony with the dignity and reverence it is due."

Just days before the third season of "Big Love" premiered last January, the creators of the show told ABCNews.com about their continued efforts to make the show as realistic as possible for viewers, especially on the heels of the April 2007 raid of a Texas polygamist sect.

"We began to write the season in advance of the raid in Texas," said Mark Olsen, co-creator of the series. Olsen said that the raid occurred during last year's writers' strike, and so when the staff returned they got right to work.

"We had to make the series relevant," said Olsen. "We couldn't have this season fail to acknowledge the events that had transpired in these characters' lives."

"It would be like 'Sex and the City' not acknowledging that the Twin Towers were not there anymore," he said.

The Yearning for Zion Ranch, a compound run by the Fundamentalist Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, was raided in April 2008 after state authorities received calls reportedly from juveniles claiming sexual abuse. Texas Child Protective services then removed hundreds of children from the care of their parents while they investigated claims that the sect forced underage girls to marry older men and bred young men to become sexual abusers.

The more than 430 children were returned to their parents in June, a month after first being separated from their families. The investigation is ongoing.

But Olsen and show co-creator Will Sheffer said that the Texas raid was actually a double-edged sword in terms of the show.

While it made their show more culturally relevant it also associated the series with one of the most "unsavory" news stories of the year.

When we get this publicity in the real world we really don't know whether it's a boom or a bust," said Scheffer.

Maria,

I read about this controversy. As they say in the biz, you can't buy this kind of publicity.

Let's talk about what's really important.  Grin

Do you think Nicki will face charges from one pissed off DA who besides having his case blow up in his fact doesn't like the fact that he was duped into falling for her.

And isn't Margene just the cutest most sincere little thing. I just love her and I don't think there's going to be any hanky panky between her and Ben although Ben's crush on her has been building with each season. The horseplay in the backyard and at the pool has been foreshadowing his infatuation for some time.

I think the three sister wives play perfectly off each other and have to say the Henrickson's "marriage" is one of the best I know of. Everyone works together toward a common goal. Even Sarah's mixed emotions feel real. Being a teenager is tough enough but growing up in such a complex household calls for a rule book I don't think has been written yet so everyone is trying to make their way in an ordinary world, (as Duran Duran sang).

It's a great show that just kept getting better. With only two episodes left, I can't wait to see what pans out.

Talk to you after Sunday's show. Wink

See you then,

KB

P.S. Is Lois a pisser or what?! Grin[/size]

My favorite show...

A lot of the shows are based on events reported by the media.

I'm not the jealous type and wouldn't mind a couple of sister wives -- assuming the work and perks were shared equally. I'm not  sure I would want to do it in the backwoods somewhere or have to live a lie in a town. Of couse, I would think it only fair for a woman to have four husbands. We could then afford to stay home, shop, and raise our kids ourselves.

Are the new episodes on HBO on Demand yet? If so, than I'll drop Showtime and add HBO. I like Weeds on Showtime and the Tudors.

oh i agree kathy and ginger  with you commets, i cant wait to see this weeks eppy

now  i might watch during the week because my son and I like to watch the apprentice together, unless its on for 2 hours again, which in that case i will  have to tape it...2 hours of the donald  is too long and he has school the  next day so he gets mad i say he cant watch lol!

and then i watch the housewives now during the week when i get a chance on abc.com
i dont watch too much tv and all the shows i DO watch are on the same night and time go figure!

my favorite shows are on several times during the day...the daily show and colbert report. i can catch the previous nights eppy during the next day and have several times to catch it so that works out as well

my daughter has been catching all my children with me at night on soapnet, she likes a few of the characters but i dont like waiting all day to watch it at night lol. i have been watching that soap for as long as i can remember!

My daughter records her favorite shows and watches them whenever. I find  it comforting to know that certain shows are on certain times. Maybe its the comfort of having a routine. It puts some order in life.

Once you stop working every day weekends are not that different than weekdays and you tell time by the light outside rather than the clock. I think it's a mistake to assume that an elderly person is 'so confused they don't know what day it is.' It's just that it's not that important anymore. It took some getting used to.

Has anyone watched Weeds? I really like this show. It's like the Sopranos in that you tend to like and understand the characters even though they are probably sociopaths, morally bankrupt, or both.

I have to join in here. Big love is a guilty pleasure of mine. I think of it as sort of looking at a train wreck. It really makes me think and think and then think some more. Morally, ethically, and religiously. Whew!
My kids know to not disturb me while I am watching it.
The concept is just so foreign to me but the female characters are not.
This past episode while she was in that white gown and going into that room, wow! that really exists?
I grew up where in North Jersey, most of my friends were Jewish, Catholic and Presbyterian. Went to college and met Christians and Baptists, now I know Muslims as well..guess I was missing out on a few other religions?
