I'm jumping into this thread a bit late. Maybe not since it's still ice-cream season.

Like KB I have a fondness for Ice Cream on 9. My favorite flavor is cherry vanilla. The owners are nice and live in Howell. Those working behind the counter are usually employees -- some nicer than others...

Last week we splurged on huge ice cream cones instead of dinner. (Grownups can do that.) We talked awhile with Steve, the owner. He really isn't rolling in dough as many think business owners all are but his prices are now higher because his costs go up.

The question is how long will he be able to hang on. There is a limit to what you can charge for something that is a treat rather than a meal but there is no limit to what the suppliers can charge him. Everyone's costs are going up and it gets passed down to us. Even the cost of energy to keep those freezers running is over the top.

If you could figure the amount of fuel it takes to get something as simple as walnuts from a grower to the top of your sundae you might not be surprised at the cost of an ice cream sundae.

The Coldstone story doesn't surprise me. I stopped there once and the attitude made me leave.

Bob,

Do you mean Cold Stone is closing its doors?

The Howell store is empty with a "For Lease" sign in the window. Don't know if it the whole chain or just the one store.

Can't say that I'm surprised. Even if these weren't, 'the times that try men's souls,' economically-speaking, I still would have been surprised had they been able to continue to make the gimmick work since it was so over-priced and over-rated.

Thanks for the info.

Thanks i will check on the one in Brick. The one in Great Adventure was just some of their stuff, no cakes and it is closed for the season anyway.
I know the one in Freehold (where we will be Thanksgiving) and Wall(where I work) are both closed.
