For those drivers who use kent road and can't see, the yellow lines mean you stay on YOUR side. Can't beleive some drivers think they are at the raceway when they make those turns taking them LOW AND INSIDE. Whant to practise then go to a racetrack.

I agree.  Try coming out of WAWA onto Kent.  You risk getting into a major accident with those speed demons!  Angry

I live on Kent Road. We sucessfully petitioned the town some years ago to get trucks off the road, and it was a big improvement. Now, even though it is not dump trucks tailgating us as we approach our driveway, the cars are on our bumpers. Clearly, this road is a short cut for people trying to avoid some of the lights on Route 9, and those people are in a hurry!  We observe many, many accident at the intersection with Ford Road, because of the poor visibility of people coming out of Ford, and the fact that most people on Kent are going faster than the posted 35 mph.  That intersection is the bus stop for my children. The police have told us they don't like to patrol our road because it is not safe for them to pull over.  PLEASE do not tailgate and do observe the posted speed limits.

Carolyn,

Unfortunately this is a problem in many towns now that over development has made Route 9 a parking lot at certain times of the day.

In order to avoid having to wait for the light to change at Strickland Road to go to their homes at Strickland Farms or to go further to Jackson Mills Road, drivers come barreling through the main drive of my condominium complex (being that we're talking about over development causing the problem would you believe that ironically enough the name of the road is "Hovnania Blvd") on a road that has a posted speed limit of 20 mph. Another irony is the road is separated by a small treed berm from Scenic Drive which is Howell. So we have Howell and Freehold Township cops driving the "Blvd" at all different hours but never, it seems, when these demolition derby drivers come barreling through doing at least two to three times the posted speed limit. On more than one occasion I have seen a kid come running off the berm. Luckily, for now, the cars have all been able to screech to a halt in time but it's only gonna take that one time. What will that driver do if they injure or kill somebody just to shave what, maybe three to four minutes off their drive home. Well, it will give them something to ponder while they're sitting in a cell serving time for vehicular manslaughter.

You are right KB about over developement but isn't that what we pay $ to planners to do? Guess they don't plan very well. Lets build 3 schools and now lets close a few. Planners are not very smart period. Just look at the jughandle by walmart. A nightmare so lots of drivers come down kent and turn that way. Crazy because they forget or can't see a school there on the corner. Guess when they close southard school that problem will be gone and the new tennants can fight it.

The traffic in Howell isn't just from Howell except perhaps in the cul-de-sacs. It comes from Brick, Jackson, Lakewood and beyond. There are good reasons to limit development but traffic is not one of them. Unless we can put toll boths on every road into Howell (residents get a free easy pass) the traffic is going to get worse.

I'm not even sure it's legal to knock down a proposed development because of traffic alone.

Let me tell you about planners. They only make money when they're planning new development, so do you think their plans will ever include stopping development?

At a more fundamental level, we must recognize that the main point of planning is to "solve" problems that arise from crowding.  Thus planning is designed to help accommodate larger populations.  To see how this works, let's imagine that the problem is traffic congestion and that regional planning calls for, and ultimately produces, a large expansion of the regional highway system.  This will encourage and facilitate further population growth so that soon the added new population will overwhelm and clog the expanded regional highway system. (Bartlett, 1969, 1973.) The taxpayers will have paid for the planning, they will have paid for the expanded highways, and in return they will get traffic congestion on an enlarged regional scale.

Thus, population growth forces us to go to regional planning instead of local planning.  This enlarges the problem so that local congestion becomes transformed into regional congestion, and nothing is solved: indeed, the problems of congestion are made worse.

Planners are a major part of the problem, not the solution.
