I was wondering if anyone here belongs to the JAG dog agility group (

I have a Jack Russell puppy that I think would be great at agility based on his daily, very entertaining, acrobatics. He will be 4 months old on Dec 8. He's been going to puppy training classes since he was 9 weeks old and graduates next week. The trainer said she thought he'd be a great agility dog and suggested I look into the JAG club.
The thing is, I really don't know anything about dog agility competitions other that what I've read in the past couple of weeks. I was wondering if anyone here is involved with JAG or any other dog agility group who can give me some info on dog agility. Is there a minimum age for them to start training? Am I just being a typical "mom" thinking my puppy is great and smart and would thrive in this group?
Anything I should know about the sport? Is it OK to train my pup and not put them in competition? What should I know about competitions? Is there a particular thing I should look out for to know if he could/should do this?
Any info would be great.
