New Jersey American water has issued mandatory restrictions on water for monmouth county and asking ocean county to restrict water comsumption.
No rain, egads my plants are forget it and tomatoes, basil etc just don't like hose water.
I am hoping all residents will do some kind of rain dance. We are sacrificing some burgers and sausage to mother nature to help us. Grin

Seriously, with this excessive heat watch out for the elderly and kids and don't forget your animal friends.

My question is:  When you go to their web site, you will see we are also helping supply water to Trenton due to problems with their treatment center, Why are they not on restrictions as well?

Does Trenton pay higher rates maybe? I can't imagine that...

Maybe it's because there are more hospitals, prisons, etc. than here? I'd like to hope they're doing it for a very good reason.

Pardon me for being cynical... but by forcing us to use less water we will pay less. Then the next time the question of our high water rates come up they spin it by claiming that our "water bill is lower."  Roll Eyes

Jim,

I got an automated call 2 days ago from NJ Un-American.  They didn't say "mandatory" and they only suggested that we restrict lawn watering, car washing, etc.  And even then, it was only a suggestion.

Did something change in the last 48 hours?  Are you sure about the mandatory part?

Yeah, it changed...

VOORHEES, NJ (July 3, 2010) – New Jersey American Water has issued mandatory water restrictions
for its customers in Monmouth County. Until future notice, residents are urged to discontinue outdoor
water use such as lawn watering and car washing, and non-essential indoor water use. A spell of high
temperatures and a lack of precipitation as resulted in higher than normal water demand in Monmouth
County.

We got another call from NJ American water yesterday, 7/18 and it says that the mandatory restrictions are lifted in Monmouth county but monmouth and ocean counties are asked to conserve water and please use odd and even days for watering.
Still hot so watch out for elderly and pets and your kids.

Keep an eye on your parents and elderly friends & neighbors.  Sometimes they try to save a buck on the electric and they skip the AC.  And then they fry themselves in the process.  If they don't have AC, bring them to your house.  Or the mall.  Or anywhere it's cool.

I just came from Staples and there were 3 or 4 people sitting and chatting in the office chairs for sale.  I think they were having a bible meeting.

I'm still convinced the number one killer of elderly during a heat wave is the cardigan sweater!  Tell them to lose the wool, drop their trousers and sit in a cool tub.

Pat - you reminded me of a next door neighbor I had.  I think she first allowed her sons to put - window ac units in her house in 1999, but refused to turn them on - I would have to go stand under the unit to see if it was on - go fight with her to put it on (usually have to threaten to call her sons) - then make sure that when I went to work another neighbor took over AC partrol.  But I have to say one thing  - she had a great fight back at me:  For over 80 years I lived without it and survived many heat waves.

Really, the elderly, for the most part, are always cold no matter what the temp is. Being overdressed is just as bad for them or anyone and you will notice loved ones start to go back in time.
