Why would Fritz or Pat run ?.
They are too intelligent.
They both know Nov. will be a Republican landslide.
Even Steve knows that Pallone and Holt may even lose their seats.
Democrats in Monmouth are ticked they they didn't use their political clout
with Obama during the health care vote to try to save Fort Monmouth.
Last years Democrats will vote Republican this Nov.

Paul,

We are talking about Howell Town Council here.   One has nothing to do with the other.  Lets stay on point.

Steve
You know as well I do that what happens county state and national will
help decide our local election. This is fact.
Don't you agree that this is what to a large degree affected the independants
last Nov. The results may have been differant if there was no Governors race.

No Paul, I don't agree.  The Independents lost for 2 reasons.  Their record speaks for itself and the people realized they were a terrible mistake.  The Democrasts didn't support them and they could have never won in the first place without that support.

100%. On. The. Money.

There are certain Council members who would never have made it onto "the dais" without a coalition of the "disenchanted." A hodge-podge of political powerhouses from both parties who came together to, (they thought), fight the good fight for Howell.

Their disappointment is palpable and I get the feeling many of them - like you, Steve - look at the dais and think, "Look what I did."

I'm not that disappointed with our current government with the exception of maybe the latest two council members elected.

I especially like our deputy mayor and Susan Clark. I might not always agree with them but they do their homework, "read before they sign" off on legislative matters, ask the questions we would all like answers to, and share their thought process with the rest of us.

They seem to realize that there are many intelligent people in Howell and refrain from being condescending or talking down to us.

I'm sure Bob Walsh disappointed some of you but I'm just not one of them. Am I missing something?

Even as I say this, I have to admit that so far pauline has added some balance to the council and the histrionics we sometimes witnessed when she spoke as a private citizen at meetings has been toned down considerably even as her passion remains.

On the other hand, so far the "new guy" seems to be a taller, younger, clone of "Joey." I hope the resemblance is only superficial!

To give him the benefit of doubt, maybe he's just a little uneasy in public and uncomfortable discussing the pros and cons of township matters at meetings. Perhaps he really has all the current town residents best interests at heart. Maybe if he just loosens up a bit and tell us what he really thinks...

There are too many manufactured politicians designed by party poohbahs and plugged into the system solely to promote the "party line" as mandated by the largest contributors. Every town with profitable opportunities for developers or some other special interest group in NJ probably has at least one person already on its council or boards who was courted, supported, and groomed for office.

Howell residents should be ahead of the curve in spotting them by now, but it's the hoards of newbies arriving who need to get up to speed fast.

No government is perfect but if you compare the current one to the terrible, arrogant, pompous reign of Joe DiBella that gave us thousands of new high density family homes, residential hotels, prime open space steered to developers, suspicious meetings with criminals, and bizarre, "shoot from the hip" decisions like closing select streets to traffic, this government is heaven.
