Folks

Anyone know of a good, reliable animal removal service? we certainly heard, for the third night in a row, noises coming from the attic area. scratching, ruslting and movement sounds (no i'm not going up there :-)).

I have terminex coming by this afternoon. we have a contract with them but they dont handle anything worse than mice/rats. so if they arent mice/rats, then it need a different service.

any sugestions?

Joe,

It's probably a squirrel.  Get yourself a hav-a-heart trap, catch him and deliver him over to the reservoir or nearest park.

Any pest control service will do the same but they'll charge you and take the trap when they are done.  Do it yourself, save the money and keep the trap for the next critter.

I have a medium sized model that will accomodate a squirrel, rabbit, raccoon, etc.  The email is pgaraffa@aol.com if you want to borrow it.

that means i have to go in the attic :-)

Thanks for the offer. it may come in handy. but the exterminator took a look in the attic and didn't find any sgns of anything living up there. no droppings, no mess, no torn insulation, etc. just a few dead carpenter bees which i've had up there since we moved in.  He thinks that it's possible that bats or some other pest may be in the soffit. they may have found a way in. we have a tree whose branches lean up against the house right where we heard most of the sounds last ngiht.

He also said that sounds against one part of the attic/house can travel all over. but again, he didnt see any signs of anything up there. so not sure waht to do at this point as long as they cant get into the attic from the soffit.

Maybe the branch is rubbing against the house and making the noise?   Cut it back hard so it doesn't rub against the house.  You'll also elminate the squirrel's ability to get on your roof because I've never seen one shimy up a drainpipe!  Wink

We have them all over the yard.  No branches touch the house so my roof remains "squirrel free" for now.   Hopefully it will stay that way.

Just a F.Y.I. - if you catch a critter yourself and release it anywhere in Howell, and are caught, you will be fined.  This was told to us about a year or two ago by a township worker.

Hope it's just the tree branch agains the house.  Good luck Joe!

Bats are our friends. They get rid of more insects than Raid. Learn to love them. Spiders, too.

I swore there was an army in my attic but it turned out to be a large branch falling on the roof and rolling off taking the gutter with it and crashing to the ground.

Another time it was a couple of huge turkey buzzards settling in on the roof ridge for the night.

You would also be surprised at the noise squirrels can make tossing acorns at your roof.

Anyway, if you get rid of anything you might be plagued with an abundance of whatever it was they lived on.
