Thankfully last night BOE Members Mr. O'Brien, Mrs. Smith, Mrs. Brennan & Mrs. Roses all voted not to change a current BOE Policy. The new Policy would have charged local Non Profit Organizations to use the building when the custodials were normally working. This Policy could have forced local Scouts and Sports Leagues to either raise fees or close down.  Fees would be charged to open buildings when schools are not in season. However For Profit Organizations will pay fees no matter what.

Thank Thomas.

The majority voted in favor of postponing indefinitely any board action (for or against) on the agenda item as presented.

My personal opinion on the use of school facilities is in accordance with our association's (New Jersey School Boards Association) policy statement 1330 on this issue:

The district facilities belong to the community, which paid for them for the primary purpose of offering a full educational program for its children.  Prudent use and management of school facilities outside of the regular operating schedules -- providing that such use does not interfere with the orderly conduct of a thorough and efficient system of education -- allows the community to benefit more broadly from the use of its own property.

I want to apologize for my earlier wording on this. Jeanette's wording is the exact wording. They voted as she said to postpone indefinitely any board action on the agenda item as presented. From what I understood is by them taking this action it automatically keeps the current Policy in effect.  Thank you Jeanette for giving us the exact wording.

Al, no need to apologize. It is always easier to report the bottom line.

In this case, I think that an understanding of the process may be important as well. Mr. Sanasac did a wonderful job in explaining the parliamentary procedure the board was acting upon since I am still a novice in this area.
